How to choose a company name that gets approved
- Check the register first. Most registries refuse names that are the same as, or very close to, an existing company.
- Avoid regulated words such as Bank, Insurance, Capital or Trust unless you hold the licence. They trigger extra approval almost everywhere.
- In the UAE and the wider Gulf, avoid religious terms, royal or government references, and place names like Dubai or Emirates.
- In the UK, words like British, Royal, Charity and Institute are "sensitive" and need approval with supporting evidence.
- Secure the .com and the country domain on the same day you reserve the name.
The rule checks here are a quick screen based on published guidance. They are not legal advice, and the registry has the final say.
